Daniel Gross in Conversation at Somerset House, London

In partnership with Jewish Book Week, Somerset House welcomed Daniel Gross for a brilliant evening in conversation with Lord Rothschild, investor and patron of the arts, and Alex Brummer, City Editor at the Daily Mail, about his new book A Banker’s Journey: How Edmond J. Safra Built a Global Financial Empire.

Daniel, Alex and Lord Rothschild spoke about the life and career of ‘the greatest banker of his generation’, the leading champion and protector of the Sephardic diaspora, and proud child of Beirut’s Jewish quarter, Edmond Safra.

Daniel Gross, who, like Safra, traces his heritage to Aleppo, Syria, told the audience how exclusive access to Safra’s personal archives enabled him to track the banker’s remarkable journey from Beirut to Milan, Sao Paulo, Geneva, and New York-to the pinnacle of global finance.

Daniel was photographed in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court at Somerset House, which is centred around the iconic fountains and surrounded on all sides by Sir William Chambers’ glorious 18th century architecture.
